What is Petlink?
We can easily tell you about this brilliant system since our dogs, four in number, and our cat, Oops, have been equipped with it for several years. Petlink is a plastic or metal medal on which there is a QR Code. This last one is connected to the ICAD chip of your animal, as we remind you, identification has been compulsory since July 3, 2011, particularly for traveling within the European Union. Concretely, the Petlink medal will allow the person who finds your lost animal to inform you directly that they have found it. To do this, she will simply have to scan the QR Code with her Smartphone, which will trigger the sending of an SMS to your own Smartphone.
How to connect the Petlink medal to the ICAD chip?
Here again, it’s childishly simple and completely free after payment of the medal, which costs €10 to €15 depending on the model (metal or plastic). In fact, all you need to do is create an account on Petlink, then provide your contact details and fill out your dog or cat’s form, indicating the number of its identification chip. If the animal is not identified by an ICAD chip, it is impossible to benefit from this service. Once your contact details and the dog or cat form have been completed, all you need to do is enter the number of your Petlink tag, which will be linked to your animal for life. If your pet goes missing, you can also benefit from a free alert on the Petlink Facebook page. We know the strength of social networks in terms of disappearance of sentient and living beings, and therefore animals, since they have been recognized as such since 2015 and registered in the Civil Code. Finally, be aware that being linked to a QR Code, the Petlink medal works worldwide, without distinction. We believe it is important to point out that the person who finds your animal does not have your contact details, but their contact details are sent to you so that you can call them back.
Our opinion on the matter…
As we told you, all our animals are equipped with Petlink tags. We chose the plastic model, and our 11-year-old dog has been wearing it for several years. No alteration with time, nor with the different swims in the Atlantic Ocean in summer, nor with the mud that he brings back from his walks, one of his passions! This does not hinder the dogs in their daily movements, the medal being as light as a feather, they do not even feel it around their neck. As for the attachment of the medal, again, it’s solid, you could say! Despite a hyperactive dog, the attachment has never shown any sign of fatigue. We have never had to experience our animals running away, however, we have already tested scanning the QR Code and we actually receive a message on our Smartphone, just a few seconds after flashing it.
